Xani Byrne, elder brother of Alice Byrne who died by suicide on New Year's Day 2022, set off today on a custom built tandem to ride around the coast of Great Britain. The ride is 3500 miles long and will take 88 days. Each day Xani will be joined by a different person who has lost someone to suicide or struggles with these thoughts themselves. Today he and his mum were waved off by friends and neighbours. including a few people who will taken a turn on the bike later in the ride. Today mother and son will ride to Eyemouth and then Xani will go on from there with a different riding partner every day. If all goes to plan he will be back in Portobello on the August 23rd.
He is trying to raise money for two suicide specific charities Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide (SOBS) and Papyrus. He has raised nearly 8k so far.
