Scottish Conservative Leader, visits UK Government Community Ownership project at Kings Theatre in Edinburgh, Scotland on 11 June 2024

Scottish Conservatives Leader Douglas Ross will be seeing the progress at the Kings Theatre in Edinburgh which is benefitting from UK Government Community Ownership funding.

Douglas Ross will today hail his party’s levelling-up programme as a “game-changing success story” for communities across Scotland.

The Scottish Conservative leader visited the iconic King’s Theatre in Edinburgh, which last year was awarded a £2million grant, under the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund, towards a major redevelopment.

It is one of countless projects across Scotland and the UK to benefit from funding packages, ranging from tens of millions of pounds for town centre regeneration projects, to several thousand pounds to upgrade or save a vital village amenity.

Scottish Conservative Leader Douglas Ross said: “The King’s Theatre is one of scores of projects across Scotland to benefit from the UK Government’s Levelling Up or Community Ownership funds.

“The £2m grant is helping this much-loved Edinburgh venue become fully accessible for the first time in its history, which is great news for wheelchair users and others.

“The Conservative government’s levelling-up programme has been a game-changing success story for communities up and down Scotland.

“From major infrastructure projects in town centres to smaller grants to save village halls, these funds have regenerated previously run-down areas and galvanised local communities.

“While SNP ministers continue to inexplicably whinge about levelling-up, their own councillors have rightly embraced – and celebrated – it, after securing crucial grants for local projects.
