A new STEM initiative challenging school students to build and control an underwater vehicle was launched today in Stirling. SUBS in Schools is being introduced into 15 Scottish schools by Engineering in Motion (EIM), a leading global education programme provider with lead supporter the Royal Navy. The programme will be managed in partnership with ESP, a Stirling based MOD STEM partner. Services personel were on hand at ESP in Stirling today to demonstrate the submersibles to students from Kilpartrick High School in West Dumbartonshire, St Columba’s in Dunfermline and Govan High School.
The competition is for teams of six students, with the Scotland pilot year introducing the Development Class which is open to year groups S1-S3, ages 12 – 14. The students will develop their Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) and compete at a National Final in April 2020.
