  • Spokes Porty, the local Spokes group in Portobello, organised a Safe Routes to School event this morning for primary school children in Portobello, Edinburgh. They were joined on the school run by local MSP, Ash Denham, local councillors Mary Campbell and Maureen Child and Strider, the Living Streets Scotland mascot. The 'walking bus' made its way from Portobello High Street vis St Johns Primary School to finish at Duddingston Primary School where participants could get some breakfast! The event is part of a weekend of local activities organised by the cycling campaign group Pedal on Parliament instead of their annual mass cycle ride to the Scottish Parliament, focussing on local issues across Scotland. The ride will raise funds for Clarrie Mendy, who tragically lost 2 relatives in the Grenfell Tower Disaster and has now been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, and for Doddie Weir's MY NAME5 DODDIE foundation.   • A Charity Bike Ride linking two Portobellos set off early this morning. A former Edinburgh Portobello resident Gordon Barclay left Portobello, Edinburgh to cycle to Portobello, London. The ride will raise funds for Clarrie Mendy, who tragically lost 2 relatives in the Grenfell Tower Disaster and has now been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, and for Doddie Weir's MY NAME5 DODDIE foundation.
