Someone has been busy during lockdown by creating a mystical crocheted garden of creatures. Austrian Daniela McDonald, who lives in Polwarth, moved from Spain last September and has used the extra time at home to do some ‘yarn bombing’ picking up the habit from Spain of decorating trees. She learnt crochet at school and knows that the skill is still being taught in Austrain schools to both boys and girls. Daniela has received many cards from passing children and she has asked them what theme she should try next. The majority of passers by are looking forward to the ocean themed scene Daniela has planned.
On 21 December 29 years ago Pan-Am 103,Maid of the Sea, was blown up over the small town of Lockerbie with the loss of all 243 passengers and 16 crew, in what became known as the Lockerbie bombing. Large sections of the aircraft crashed onto residential areas of Lockerbie. The fuselage consisting of the main wing box structure landed in Sherwood Crescent, creating a large impact crater where three homes previously stood, killing 11 more local people on the ground. Following a three-year joint investigation by Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary, the smallest mainland force in the UK, and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), arrest warrants were issued for two Libyan nationals in November 1991
• One of the three sculptures that make up The Manuscript of Monte Cassino by Eduardo Paolozzi has been removed from its site on Edinburgh's Picardy Place to allow works on the new St James quarter.

Local residents have expressed concern that the sculpture won't return to the original site when the works have completed.

The work was commissioned by entrepreneur, Sir Tom Farmer and remembers the bombing during WW2 of the Monte Cassino monastery - close to the artists family home.

 • Supporters of the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign demonstrated against Israel's participation in the FIL Rathbones Women's 2015 U19 lacrosse world championships in Edinburgh today. Protests are planned for the team's games against Korea, New Zealand, Finland and the US in the coming four days in the leafy area or Peffermill. Jay Bathgate (12) has a friend who he calls regularly in Gaza and it was hearing the background noises of bombing and screams that heightened his concern for the area.
