A combination of Action Porty, Tribe Porty Youth Theatre and Portobello Heritage Trust hosted an afternoon event at which older residents of Portoebllo were encouraged to come along, enjoy some music and afternoon tea and share their memories of the Edinburgh suburb with the newest genration of Portobello residents. At the same time the team bringing the building back into community use were able to gauge their progress and see what things still need to be done ready for the big opening in June 2018.<br />

  • An outdoor photography exhibition was installed this morning in Portobello, Edinburgh. The exhibition links Portobello with the town of Akureyri in northern Iceland. Fifteen photographers from each place have contributed images on paired themes. The Portobello exhibition is part of this year's Art Walk Porty - a pandemic resticted version of the annnual arts event on the theme "All at Sea". The exhibition is also currently on display in Iceland, in a similar outdoor location. <br />

  • The Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton came to Portobello Beach and it still wasn't the biggest thing happening there. The Big Beach Busk, now in its eighth year was just getting underway when the Baton arrived at the beach volleyball courts by Portobello Baths where a Men's CEV Continental Tour competition was underway. Starting and finishing at the Promenade bar, The Dalriada, the runners went to the far end of the beach at Seafield and back again, splashing through the Figgate Burn twice on their way.<br />

  • Although Bellfield Church and halls in Portobello - the  building at the heart of the first successful urban Community Right To Buy in Scotland - isn't going to officially open until later in the year, it was the venue for a pilot community event this afternoon. A combination of Action Porty, Tribe Porty Youth Theatre and Portobello Heritage Trust hosted an afternoon event at which older residents of Portoebllo were encouraged to come along, enjoy some music and afternoon tea and share their memories of the Edinburgh suburb with the newest genration of Portobello residents. At the same time the team bringing the building back into community use were able to gauge their progress and see what things still need to be done ready for the big opening in June 2018.<br />

Amongst the walkers, raising funds for a wide range of charities, were Portobello's four councillors, walking together in their fundraising efforts for the Thistle Foundation.  Calum Laidlaw started the 24-mile Mighty Stride in Holyrood Park while the other three councillors - Maureen Child, Mary Campbell and Kate Campbell - started the 15.5-mile Big Stroll in Musselburgh.<br />
