• Clouds rush over the Cross and Church at Kilchoman on the island of Islay. The cross dates back to the 1300's when the medieval church was built. The beautiful and very detailed Kilchoman Cross, carved in Iona style, measures 8 feet 4 inches in height, and with the exception of the inscription it is in a very perfect state of preservation, though the design is in places obscured by lichen. The cross has a striking similarity with the great cross at Oronsay Priory albeit that the Kilchoman Cross has more complicated scroll-work.
The community in Portobello came out last night in support of a locally organised campaign to try and save a local church and its attached church hall for the community. No longer needed by the church, who plan to sell it, the hall is widely used by community groups. The campaign hopes to make use of Scottish community buy-out legislation that has recently been extended to cover urban areas in one fo the first such campaigns in a Scottish urban area. Local film acting couple, Shauna Macdonald and Cal MacAninch, were instrumental in the event that featured a variety of local talent and was attended by about 150 people, packing out the church hall. Shauna brought the show together, along with her sister Kyrsta, and Cal performed on stage in both the specially written short play that opened the evening and singing with the band Hooseband at the show's finale.
The People Politics Hustings, organised by the Church of Scotland, allowed voters to question SNP deputy John Swinney, Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader Willie Rennie, Scottish Greens co-convener Patrick Harvie and former Scottish Conservatives leader Annabel Goldie ahead of the Scottish Elections. Before the politicians had a chance to speak they had a chance to listen to five speakers with different viewpoints on how Scotland has supported them in the past and how it should support them in the future..
